About Me

My full name is Jacob John Almond, I am 29 years old and currently reside in the U.K. My formal background is in computer science, and I have worked in the I.T. industry for many years. Throughout my life, I have always held a passion for writing, performing and listening to music. I also love video games.

Within the last couple of years, I started asking myself how I could best combine my interests, and do something I would really enjoy, and find satisfying. The answer was simple enough: audio design within the games industry.

Last year, I began searching for opportunities at game developers and publishers, within the audio field. I quickly realised that these roles were very sought after, and typically demanded many years of previous experience, and the need to ‘have shipped a minimum of 5+ AAA+ titles’. I then understood it was necessary to widen the goal posts, and find alternative ways to enter and gain experience in the industry.

As a result, for almost a year now, I have been working as a QA tester at a games company. Not only have I thoroughly enjoyed this, I have learned much about the game design process, and all the jargon and technicalities associated with it.

Alongside this, I have continued to practice audio design, and am working with some indie developers, creating music and assets for their games. This has been great, as it has expanded my portfolio and experience greatly.

So that’s a little bit about where I am currently. Please explore the rest of my site. Examples of my work can be found in the portfolio section, there is a blog, and soon there should be a shop in which some kind of album or E.P. can be bought, at an entirely negotiable price! :)
